WP6 – Scaling Up Results
WP6: From citizens and science to citizens and democracy
Key research questions:
- How to implement a participatory model of public sphere?
- What methods and policy scenarios are most suitable to make it possible for citizens to re-evaluate their involvement in public debate?
- How to identify arenas of public discussion where citizens can actively participate in a deliberative and inclusive manner?
WP6 intends to draw systematic lessons from the deliverables produced by both the conceptual and experimental WPs in the project and identify the potential for the project’s delivered results to inform better understanding of deliberative and participatory democratic processes to be used fruitfully in the wider picture of democratic societies and their institutions. In particular this WP will provide a better understanding of 1) how practically to implement a participatory model of public sphere, led by a community of autonomous and equal inquirers, 2) what methods and policy scenarios can appear most suitable to make possible for citizens to re-evaluate their involvement in public debate and 3) how to identify arenas of public discussion where citizens can actively participate in a deliberative and inclusive manner. To do it we will create a multi-stakeholder deliberation panel as an assessment and co-production chamber, providing vital input and insight to the scalability of the specific instances of active participation provided by the experimental core of the project and propose recommendations to strengthen democratic practices in knowledge societies.
