WP2: From participation to deliberation: Towards a new model of ”public sphere” for knowledge societies

Key research questions:

What could a ‘deliberative public sphere’ be, and what would be its role in forming and transforming the political opinions and preferences of people in Europe?

How can citizens’ participation in science-related activities bring to light essential aspects of what an effective and efficient model of deliberative participation might look like in democratic societies?

Our research aims to identify and conceptually evaluate key aspects of people’s engagement in deliberative processes and public argument on the model of citizen science, and by means of experimental analysis also provide quantitative information on the behavioral conditions behind people’s dispositions towards deliberative engagement.
